Free WiFi in Downtown Lockport? Maybe, Says Mayor
Officials are looking into adding free public internet downtown.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport officials will consider providing free public internet service, as part of its mission to improve its downtown.
Efforts are already under way to revamp the streets, and Alderman Jason VanderMeer thinks free public WiFi might be a perk they could provide residents.
"If the council thinks it’s worth it, can we go out and get a few ideas of what the possibilities are?" VanderMeer posed during a recent Committee of the Whole meeting.

Mayor Steven Streit gave the go-ahead to look into it, including researching pricing for a three-square block area from 8th to 11th streets and from Washington to Canal streets.
IT Manager Ryan Kolalis Thursday said he had already been in contact with Comcast. Depending on cost and funds available, it could take up to three years to complete all at once, or implemented in stages over time.
