Remember if Property Tax goes up, so does the rent for homes and business. In the end everyone pays for what in this case is no increase in service. Expect higher costs for products and services if this passes. Is this the last of the new taxes from the Village?

This coming Wednesday, the Village of Homer Glen Municipal Government will be delivering its 2020 Christmas Present early to all property holders in Homer Glen! A vote will be taken on Wednesday, December 9th, at the Village Hall to approve a new agreement to transfer the stewardship of the Township Road District to the Village of Homer Glen. Along with this transfer, the Village Board will approve the 1st Municipal Property Tax hike in Homer Glen’s 19-year history. In a complex deal that only lawyers can understand, we get the SAME SERVICES (Road Repair, Road Resurfacing, Snow Removal, etc.), but we will PAY MORE IN TAXES. In the spirit of “transparency” the documents call for an average increase of $57 for every $100,000 in assessed property value starting next year. So, if you own a home with an assessed value of $300,000, congratulations, you will be getting a property tax INCREASE of $171. That is on top of the suggested property tax increases for our school districts. The timing is all wrong considering many of the Village’s families and businesses are reeling from the pandemic.
