Homer Glen Plans Kite Festival

To celebrate its 20th birthday, the village will hold a kite festival on May 2 at Heritage Park.

HOMER GLEN, IL — To celebrate its 20th birthday, the Village of Homer Glen will hold a kite festival on May 2. The event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be held at Heritage Park, 14240 W. 151st St.

Families can enjoy a picnic at Heritage Park, and watch the kite-flying professionals from Chicago Kite take to the sky, the village said. The event is free.

Chicago Kite will also have a large selection of beginner to professional kites for sale, or families can bring their own kites from home to fly. The village will also have a limited supply of free beginner paper kites for kids in attendance, according to a release.

The event will also include children's games provided by Cross of Glory Church and a free spring gardening workshop hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Registration is required for the workshop. To register, please call the Forest Preserve District directly at 815-727-8700.

According to the village, the Homer Glen Junior Women’s Club will also be on-site distributing milkweed seeds and sharing information about the importance of monarch butterfly habitats, and the Homer Township Public Library will attend with its Bookmobile.

Food trucks from Smokin' Z BBQ and Cream-Crunch-N-More will have lunch and snacks for sale. Residents can also bring their own lunch and picnic in the park.

This event is weather dependent, the village said. In the event of inclement weather, you can check
