Homer Glen Village Manager Resigns

HOMER GLEN, IL — Homer Glen Village Manager Karie Friling has submitted her resignation to the Mayor and Village Board. Friling, who has accepted the position of Executive Director for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, said in her letter of resignation that her last day will be April 7.

Friling was hired by Homer Glen in 2019, and had previously served as assistant village manager for the Village of Orland Park.

"After over 27 years, I have decided to step away from the profession of local municipal government," Friling wrote in her letter. "I have struggled with this decision to end this chapter of my career."

She wrote that the position at the forest preserve was an "incredible opportunity," and that she "had not been actively seeking new employment."

Friling commended all the board members, and said "this village board and our staff are among the most professional, committed and sincere individuals I have ever worked with in my 27-year career."

"In no way should my personal decision reflect poorly on this board, our staff, or the community," Friling wrote. "I know some in the community will negatively twist and use this against myself, the mayor, the village board, and the overall organization - I want Homer Glen to know directly from me - I have been extremely blessed here and have enjoyed every single day of my service."

Friling said she will prepare a final report outlining the status of projects in the village, and remains available for questions or assistance through the transition process.

According to a release from the forest preserve district, the board of commissioners is expected to approve Friling's hiring at its March 16 meeting. She will begin her position at the forest preserve on April 9.
