I&M Canal Gateway Gardens Dedicated In Lockport
Main Street Lockport received a $25,000 grant for the project.
LOCKPORT, IL — Main Street Lockport, a nonprofit which supports downtown Lockport, recently held a dedication for the new I&M Canal Gateway Gardens.
The nonprofit received a grant from Canadian National Railroad, in partnership with America in Bloom, for the new landscaping and plantings along the I&M Canal in downtown Lockport.
Main Street Lockport board member Tina Keller told Patch the nonprofit was awarded a $25,000 grant for the project, with matching $25,000 through donations or work on the garden.

Keller said the organization also received a grant through the same partnership two years ago for another garden and landscaping near the Illinois State Museum-Lockport Gallery.
The new garden and landscaping is also located near the museum, along the I&M Canal path.

Officials from America in Bloom, Main Street Lockport and the city of Lockport attended the dedication. Main Street Lockport thanked the Lockport Public Works Department, Mayor Steve Streit, City Administrator Ben Benson, and Community and Economic Development Director Lance Thies for their help with the project.
