Local Boy Scouts bring Patriotism to Homer Glen
Boy Scout Troop 229 introduces a new program to the community

Local Boy Scout Troop 229 is bringing a new program to Homer Glen with the hope of increasing our community’s patriotism while also supporting the Scouts of the Troop. The Troop has unveiled a program called FRONT YARD FLAGS in parts of Homer Glen.
Front Yard Flags (FYF) is a yearly service where the Boy Scouts will post and retire a 3’ x 5’ American Flag on 5 holidays throughout the year. Scouts will be out early for dawn to post an American Flag near the curb in front of subscribers’ homes and give a salute before moving onto the next home. The Flags will fly throughout the holiday and then near dusk, Scouts will return, give a salute and then retire the Flags.
The program will cover Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

The funds collected from the subscriptions will directly support the Scouts’ program by helping offset the costs of camping and gear.
Some leaders and Scouts have participated in similar programs with other Troops and have brought their expertise to Front Yard Flags. They know that subscribing homeowners will be very happy with the program—it’ll be quite a patriotic scene when Flag after Flag waves proudly along the streets of our community.

The Troop has received a number of subscriptions already and has thanked those who are giving support.
Troop 229 is brand new and hopes that this program will be successful enough to help send all of their Scouts to summer camp this year. Given that the Troop is still growing, the Scouts limited the area in which they distributed FYF order forms, but have hopes to expand in years to come.
So far, the Scouts have covered the area near and throughout Erin Hills and some parts of the area between Parker Road and Bell Road and south of Choctaw Trail down to 143rd Street. Due to Scouting regulations, Troop 229 can only serve the Homer Glen area at the moment.
