Lockport Approves Compensation Increases For Future Officials
The adjustment in compensation would go into effect for those elected in 2023 and 2025.
LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport City Council approved an increase in compensation for future elected officials for the first time in 20 years at Wednesday's council meeting.
"If this passes, to be really clear, it doesn't affect any of us [currently on the council]," Mayor Steve Streit said at the beginning of discussion on the item. "This is all for future council members."
The adjustment in compensation would go into effect for those elected in 2023 and 2025, City Administrator Ben Benson said.

Currently, the mayor receives $1,500 per month for a total of $18,000 per year; alderpersons receive $500 per month for a total of $6,000 per year; the city clerk receives $400 per month for a total of $4,800 per year; and the city treasurer receives $1,200 per year, according to council documents.
The approved adjustments are: taking effect in 2025, the mayor will be paid $3,000 per month for a total of $36,000 per year; taking effect in 2023, alderpersons will be paid $750 per month for a total of $9,000 per year; taking effect in 2025, the city clerk will be paid $500 per month for a total of $6,000 per year; and taking effect in 2025, the city treasurer will be paid $2,000 per year.

With these adjustments, the council also approved future compensation to be increased by an amount calculated by the annual Consumer Price Index from the prior term.
