Lockport Approves Contract Extension For City Administrator

Ben Benson was first appointed as city administrator in 2013, and again in 2017.

LOCKPORT, IL — During the newly seated city council's first council meeting on May 5, several reappointments were made, including Ben Benson as City Administrator. According to Lockport city code, the mayor, with advice and consent from the city council, appoints the city administrator who serves during their mayoral term.

"[Ben's] done an outstanding job," Mayor Steve Streit, who won his third term in April, said. "I couldn't be more pleased with your performance and all the things you've done."

Benson was first appointed in 2013, when Streit was first elected, and again in 2017, when Streit was elected to his second term, council documents state.

With the approval of the reappointment, the city council approved Benson's second extension to his employment contract. This extension includes an increase in salary and paid leave time and relocation cost, according to council documents.

With the extension of the contract, the administrator's annual salary was increased to $195,000, effective on May 1.
