Lockport Named To Top 16 Of Strong Towns Contest

In the first round of the nonprofit's sixth annual contest, Lockport is facing Bellingham, Washington.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport has been named to the top 16 of the Strong Towns "Strongest Towns" contest. In the first round of the nonprofit's sixth annual contest, Lockport is facing Bellingham, Washington.

According to the Strong Towns website, eight towns will advance to the next round of the contest based on voters. The cities were both asked about economic resilience, citizen involvement, community response to the pandemic, and more, and voters can vote for the city they think is the strongest.

Round one of voting will close at noon on Thursday.

Other towns in the contest include: Kenmore, Washington; Coaldale, Alberta; Norfolk, Virginia; Bentonville, Arkansas; Oxford, Mississippi; Ridgewood, New Jersey; Osakis, Minnesota; Yellow Springs, Ohio; Sleepy Hollow, New York; Middleton, Wisconsin; Bismarck, North Dakota; Elkhart, Indiana; Northfield, Vermont; and Edmond, Oklahoma.

Strong Towns is a nonprofit which "advocates for a model of development that allows our cities, towns and neighborhoods to grow financially strong and resilient."
