Lockport Receives $1.5M In State Funding For Roads

The City of Lockport will receive $1,507,600 to beautify Route 171 (State Street) and IL Route 7 (Ninth Street).​

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport roads will receive over $1.5 million in funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation, State Rep. Dagmara Avelar announced Wednesday.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker and IDOT have announced 99 projects throughout the state, which will receive funding to build biking and walking paths, trails, streetscape beautification and more, according to a news release.

“Illinois has had to grapple with our crumbling infrastructure for years,” Avelar said in a release. “In my work as a legislator, I have been fighting to ensure continued investment in local infrastructure to enhance our quality of life, increase accessibility and improve our safety, when our local communities thrive our state thrives. I am incredibly excited to see that the Department of Transportation has begun funding these much-needed projects in our district and across the state.”

“With regional growth driving higher traffic counts through the downtown intersection of Route 171 and 159th Street, we are pleased that state lawmakers understand the importance of protecting pedestrians in the heart [of] historic Lockport,” Lockport Mayor Steven Streit said in a release. “ This $1.5 million dollar grant, which adds pedestrian safety measures as well as beautification elements, acknowledges that people and livability in our Historic Business District are of prime importance.”
