Tenant Fatally Shot By Landlord Identified: Sheriff
Patrick Bernotas, 36, of Homer Glen, died Sunday after he was shot in the chest by his landlord, according to police and coroner reports.
LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, IL — A 36-year-old man has died after he was shot in the chest in unincorporated Lockport Township on Sunday, the Will County Sheriff's Office said. The man has been identified as Patrick Bernotas, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.
Will County Sheriff's spokesperson Kathy Hoffmeyer told Patch the suspected shooter was a 76-year-old man who rented to Bernotas. The two were not otherwise related.
According to police, deputies were called to the 100 block of Pendleton Street for a medical emergency involving a gunshot victim.

The Laraway Communications Center told deputies the person who dialed 911 was the person who shot Bernotas. According to police, that person was also performing CPR on Bernotas when they arrived.
The coroner's office said Bernotas sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The final cause and manner of death will be determined pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.

When deputies arrived, they took the 76-year-old into custody, and the Lockport Township Fire Department took Bernotas to the hospital, police said. Bernotas was pronounced deceased at 10:19 a.m. Sunday at Silver Cross Hospital emergency room.
The suspected shooter is in custody of the Will County Sheriff's Office and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
