Coroner IDs Men Killed In Ninth Street Bridge Crash In Lockport

Two people were killed in a fatal crash on Monday afternoon on the Ninth Street bridge in Lockport, police said.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Will County coroner's office identified two men killed when a Chevrolet Suburban crashed head-on into a Ford pickup truck Monday afternoon on the Ninth Street bridge in Lockport. The driver of the Suburban, 20-year-old Gabriel M. Moreno of Crest Hill, and his passenger, 60-year-old Gary L. Floyd of Joliet, were both pronounced dead shortly after 2:10 p.m., according to the coroner.

The crash also caused the Ninth Street bridge in Lockport to be closed in both directions. Illinois State Police said the crash occurred at 1:25 p.m. at Renwick and Ninth Street bridge east of Route 53.

According to police, the Suburban was traveling eastbound and crossed into the westbound lane, striking the front of the pick-up head-on.

The driver of the pick-up was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
