Ninth Street Railroad Crossing Closing For Construction

The closure will begin at 9 a.m. July 20 and the crossing will reopen by the evening on July 24.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Canadian National railroad crossing on Ninth Street west of State Street in Lockport will be closed for several days for construction. According to a Nixle alert from police, the closure will begin at 9 a.m. July 20 and the crossing will reopen by the evening on July 24.

Canadian National will perform double track replacement and cantilever installation at the Ninth Street crossing, the city said. Improvements also include the installation of a new track structure, new rubber surface and asphalt approaches.

According to the city, the cantilever signalization will allow for the existing dedicated left turn lane on eastbound Ninth Street to be extended further west before the intersection at State Street. The additional stall area will reduce congestion.
