Maria Louisa McPhail, (nee Vargas), passed away at the age of 77, on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet (formerly Joliet Area Community Hospice).

Maria was born on November 9, 1943, in Lockport Twp, IL, the daughter of the late Richard Joseph Vargas and Josephine (Carrillo) Vargas. Maria was married to her late husband Glen McPhail Sr. for 41 years.

Maria graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1961.

Maria enjoyed painting, quilting, and loved all things sewing. She was gifted with an artistic and creative mind.

She is survived by her daughter, Richelle (Jim) DiCola of Plainfield, IL, and son, Glen McPhail Jr. of Joliet; two grandchildren, Andrea and Lia DiCola; brother, Andy (Trena) Vargas; brother-in-law, Joe McPhail, and her sister-in-law and best friend, Betty Morris. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband and parents, Maria is also preceded in death by three brothers, Ric Vargas, Lou (Bernice) Vargas, and Andrew Vargas in infancy; and one sister, Cecelia (Frank) Brulc.

The McPhail family will always be grateful to the staff of Lightways Hospice for their exemplary care and compassion shown to Maria.

Visitation for Maria McPhail will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 20, 2021, 10 a.m. from the funeral home, to St. Anne Catholic Church, Crest Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials in her name can be made to Lightways Hospice (formerly Joliet Area Community Hospice).
