Old Canal Days Parade: Road Closures In Downtown Lockport
State Street will be closed between Thornton and Division streets starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
LOCKPORT, IL — Roads will be closed and traffic will be diverted on Friday due to the parade for Old Canal Days. State Street will be closed between Thornton and Division streets starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to the city. The closure includes Ninth and State streets.
Roads are expected to reopen around 8 p.m. Friday.
The festival itself is not held in downtown Lockport like years past, but is now at the old Chevron property, located at 301 W. Second St.

For the parade on Friday, all traffic will be diverted to the bypass route on Thornton, Madison, Division, and Canal. Southbound State Street traffic will use Thornton east to Madison, Madison south to Division, Division west to State. Traffic for the Ninth Street bridge will continue west to Canal, then north to Ninth Street, according to the city.
Northbound State Street traffic will use Division – west to Canal for the bridge, or east to Madison. Traffic may continue east on Division, or follow the bypass north to get back on State Street at Thornton.

All eastbound traffic from the bridge will use Canal south to Division. Traffic may then head south on State Street or follow the bypass to get back to eastbound Ninth Street or northbound State Street. Westbound Ninth Street traffic will need to head south on Madison to get to southbound State Street or the Ninth Street bridge. Traffic may follow the bypass north on Madison to get to northbound State Street at Thornton, according to the city.
Other internal roads like Hamilton, Washington, Jefferson, Second, Third, Fourth, 11th, 12th and 13th will be closed at various points for the parade, the city said.
Parking around the festival site will also be heavily restricted all weekend, police said. Pets are welcome on the festival grounds, if they are friendly and on a leash.
Old Canal Days will end on Sunday, culminating in a fireworks show at 10 p.m. The fest features a parade, carnival, live music, beer garden, wine tent, artisan market, various exhibits, food court and more.
