Pop Tab Challenge Weigh-In Planned Thursday At Market In The Glen

The town that collects the most pop tabs will reward one family with special needs with a vacation to Disney World.

HOMER GLEN, IL — After three months of collecting pop tabs in a competition against the Village of New Lenox, a pop tab weigh-in will be held Thursday at the Market in the Glen in Homer Glen. The two towns have been collecting pop tabs in a friendly competition to support the Ronald McDonald House.

The Ronald McDonald House allows parents of critically ill children to sleep free of charge near the hospital while their child undergoes treatment.

The town that collects the most pop tabs will reward one family with special needs with a vacation to Disney World. The vacation, valued at $5,000, has been donated by Walt Konow of Konow's Corn Maze, Zachary's Red Barn and Farm Events, Birchwood Gardens, and Chesdan’s Pizzeria and Grille.

Amy Blank, Communications and Recreation Coordinator, said the challenge began at the end of March to celebrate the creation of the Ability Awareness committee. Each village hall has collected quite a number of tabs, she said.

Market in the Glen opens at 3 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Park, 14240 W. 151st St., and the weigh-in will begin at 3:15 p.m.
