The project should be completed this fall, the city said.

The city was awarded funding through the Surface Transportation Program for a portion of the work with 80 percent provided by federal funding, according to a news release. The remaining 20 percent of the STP local match requirement will be offset by a second award through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program in the amount of $1.5 million, the city said. So, the city will be responsible for about 10 percent of the total funding of the project.
