Strong Towns Celebration Planned In Lockport

Lockport was named "Strongest Town" in April as part of the Strong Towns contest.

LOCKPORT, IL — After winning Strong Towns' Strongest Towns contest, the organization will hold a celebration community event in Lockport on Thursday, according to a release from the city.

Strong Towns founder and president Charles Marohn will share a message at the event at 7 p.m. Thursday from city hall, 222 E. Ninth St.

According to the city, the presentation will cover the basics of what it means to be a Strong Town and a strategic approach toward financially resilient communities. The organization believes “Strong Citizens” from all walks of life can and must participate in a "Strong Towns" approach, a release states.

Residents and community members are invited to attend the in-person event at City Hall. Space is limited to the first 75 guests to register online. For those who are interested in participating but are unable to attend in-person, the presentation will be available to watch live on the City’s YouTube Channel, Lockport TV and on LCTV, Comcast Channel 6 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.

Strong Towns is a nonprofit organization, celebrating towns and cities of various shapes and sizes who have demonstrated financial resilience and long-term prosperity, the release states.
