Two Charged After Lockport Township Shooting, Car Chase: Sheriff

Two others were released without charges, and one suspect remains at large, police said.

LOCKPORT, IL — Two people have been charged after a shooting and subsequent chase in Lockport Township on Friday, the Will County Sheriff's Office said. Jesse Tucker, 24, of Joliet, was charged with aggravated fleeing/eluding police, reckless driving and possession of a controlled substance; and Nevin McMurtry, 18, of Romeoville, was charged with possession of controlled substance.

According to the sheriff's office, Tucker and McMurtry were taken into custody by the Illinois State Police after a high-speed chase which started on Arthur Avenue. The car, which Tucker was driving, crashed at I-355 and 163rd Street.

Police said drugs were found after a search of the car.

Two other people who were in the car fled after the crash, but were taken into custody by the Lockport Police Department while running through the nearby Willow Run subdivision. Police said both were taken into custody, questioned by detectives, refused to cooperate, and were released without charges.

A fifth person also fled from the car, and remains at large, police said.

The incident remains under investigation. The Will County Sheriff’s Office said additional arrests and charges will be forthcoming as the evidence and facts of this case are processed.

Tucker and McMurtry are both being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Tucker, who has prior charges and has served time in the Illinois Department of Corrections, has had bond set at $1 million. McMurtry's bond has been set at $750,000.
