Who Vandalized 79 Graves at Lockport Cemetery?

Police want to know.

LOCKPORT, IL — Police are seeking information on who's responsible for vandalizing many graves at a Lockport cemetery over Memorial Day weekend.

Between Friday night and Saturday morning, about 79 graves were damaged at Lockport Cemetery, 528 Madison St., according to a statement from Chief Terrence Lemming.

"Someone or some group of people pushed over numerous grave memorials and headstones, many of which were damaged and irreplaceable and some had been in place for over 100 years," Lemming said in the release.

"There are numerous war veterans interred at Lockport Cemetery, including some who fought in the Civil War. Instead of honoring theses brave veterans, criminals damaged them, which is an insult to the families of the interred and all veterans."

Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for any information related to the vandalism. You can call Crimestoppers anonymously at 1-800-323-6734, or contact the Lockport Police at 815-838-2132, and ask for Chief Lemming.
