Woman Kicks, Bites Officer After False 911 Call: Sheriff

The woman had falsely called 911 claiming her roommate was trying to kill themselves after an argument, according to the sheriff's office.

LOCKPORT, IL — A Lockport woman was charged with making a false alarm to 911 after she falsely told police her roommate was trying to kill themselves, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Renee Pila, 30, was also charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer after she physically resisted police and kicked and bit officers, Will County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kathy Hoffmeyer said. A man, 31-year-old Sean Burke, was also arrested after police said he punched an officer who was trying to arrest Pila.

Will County deputies were called to the 200 block of Laurie Drive in Lockport Township on Sunday after a 911 call of a person trying to kill themselves, Hoffmeyer said.

According to police, when deputies arrived, they talked to Pila, who said her roommate was trying to kill themselves, and she stopped them. Hoffmeyer said deputies saw Pila was highly intoxicated and "very belligerent."

Deputies then spoke to Burke and the roommate, and both told police that the roommate did not try to kill themselves, Hoffmeyer said. Police were told the roommate and Pila had argued. Pila had wanted the roommate to leave, but the roommate refused, so Pila called 911, Hoffmeyer said.

Police then found there was a warrant out for Pila's arrest on previous charges of disorderly conduct, Hoffmeyer said. When they tried to take her into custody, Pila became "physical," started kicking, and bit one of the officers, Hoffmeyer said.

While police tried to take Pila into custody, Burke also punched a deputy in the head, Hoffmeyer said. Both were taken into custody, and Pila was taken to a local hospital, released, then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Burke was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer. As of Friday, he was not yet released from Will County Adult Detention Facility. His bail was set at $1,000.

Pila was also still in custody, according to Will County jail log. Her bail was set at $1,050.
