Is It Time To Stop Insulting the Other Candidate?

An Epidemic of Negative Campaigning Succeeds in Making Voters Want to Vote For No One For Mayor

Based on the behavior of the Mayor candidates Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle, one would forgive Chicago residents if they say they would prefer to transport themselves to a tropical Pacific Island and not return until Wednesday April 3, 2019 ... without having voted for Mayor. The Chicago Run-off Election is Tuesday April 2nd.

Especially when incited by their presence at the same forum, at the same time, at the same table ... neither has shown the appropriate qualities of leadership that the position of Mayor of Chicago requires. And this fact is made sadder, because evidence from both of their biographies shows that they do in fact have the needed qualities of leadership and new ideas and good ideas for our city, to become its next Mayor.

Each of Lightfoot's and Preckwinkle's TV commercials for your vote ... are even worse!

Some wise and persuasive individual needs to convince both Lori and Toni to:

- not appear simultaneously at the same forum; instead they can appear one-at-a-time, sequentially, at the same forum.

- not broadcast another TV ad unless it makes no reference at all to their opponent. It may be easiest if both simply stopped running TV or radio ads.

In this imaginary but better world that I describe, we would all be better off: One of these women will be our next Mayor; our next Mayor will be a big improvement over most of our prior Mayors; and in my world, each would better be able to govern and lead without the residue of pointless insults from the campaign.
