University of Chicago Police Department Crime Bulletin

From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018, the following serious incidents were reported to and/or by the University of Chicago Police Department:

Hyde Park-South Kenwood

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 9:20 p.m., 1616 E. 56th St. – Armed Robbery – A person walking on the sidewalk off campus was approached by three unknown suspects who struck him with their fists and demanded his property. The victim struggled with the trio, until one of the suspects displayed a handgun before fleeing on foot with his associates. The victim reported the suspects took his iPhone and a silver chain. The victim declined medical attention. The Chicago Police Department is investigating this crime.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:30 p.m., 5550 S. University – Robbery – A large group of suspects approached an individual walking on the sidewalk, struck him and pushed him to the ground before taking the victim’s cell phone, wallet, and keys. The suspects fled southbound. The victim reported no injuries.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:30 p.m., 1115 E. 56th St. – Aggravated Battery – An individual walking on the sidewalk was approached by a large group of suspects who, without provocation, struck the victim before fleeing in various directions. The victim was transported to the UCMED by CFD EMS for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:00 p.m., 1215 E. Hyde Park – Robbery – A person walking on the sidewalk off campus was approached by a group of suspects who struck him with their fists while taking a cell phone and wallet from the victim. The suspects fled westbound on Hyde Park. The victim declined medical attention. The Chicago Police Department is investigating this crime.

This Community Crime Bulletin is provided to better inform interested community members about serious crimes reported to the University of Chicago Police Department. The types of crime that may be included in this bulletin include homicides, criminal sexual assaults, robberies, aggravated batteries, residential burglaries classified as home invasions, as well as criminal damage to property when caused by gunfire. This bulletin specifically lists serious crimes reported to UCPD within the geographical boundaries of 37th to 64th streets / Cottage Grove Avenue to Lake Shore Drive.
