LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Two Libertyville High School girls basketball players have reached an impressive benchmark this past season. In recent weeks, Margaret Buchert scored her 1,000th point, following in the footsteps of teammate Lydia Crow, who currently has racked up 1,095 points during her high school career.

The feat is rare, Libertyville High School girls basketball coach Greg Pedersen told Patch. Only six other Libertyville High School girl's basketball players since the 1970s have scored more than 1,000 points.

He said it is "very special" to have two girls on the same team that have reached the 1,000-point benchmark.

Buchert's 1,000th shot came during the fourth quarter of Libertyville's match up last week against New Trier. The team went on to win 63-36 over New Trier, Pedersen said.

"Margaret did what Margaret has done many times: took her girl off the dribble, drove in from the left side and scored with her left hand," he said.

Crow scored her 1,000th point in December, becoming the seventh girl in Libertyville High School's history to reach the accomplishment, according to a post on the Libertyville High School girls basketball Twitter page.

Crow's and Buchert's leadership on the team has led to their success, Pedersen said.

"Both kids have joined forces to generate a lot of success for Libertyville girls basketball," Pedersen said. "They've grown together and matured together and as seniors they are our leaders and they have formed a dynamic guard combo that is tough to stop."

Buchert is headed to DuPauw to play college basketball and study communications or kinesiology while Crow will head to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to continue her studies and play basketball.
