Both male drivers, ages 79 and 29, were pronounced at the scene of the collision in Newport Township on Friday night.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Two men are dead following a two-vehicle crash Friday evening in Lake County near the Wisconsin border, police said. The crash happened about 7:15 p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was eastbound on Russell Road near Delany Road in Newport Township crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Express.

The driver of the Express, a 79-year-old Zion man, and the driver of the Trailblazer, a 29-year-old Winthrop Harbor man, were both pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The drivers were the only people inside the vehicles. It's unclear why the Trailblazer crossed the centerline.
