$2M Bail For Man Accused Of Converting Pistol Into Machine Gun

A Zion man is being held on a $2 million bond after he allegedly threatened a man and woman with a pistol that Waukegan police say had been converted to a machine gun.

Daquna J. Presley, 20, of the 2500 block of Hebron Avenue in Zion, was charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of aggravated assault to a peace officer, criminal damage to government-supported property, two counts of aggravated assault, and resisting a peace officer.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges that Presley used a pistol to threaten a woman in the 600 block of McAlister Avenue in Waukegan on April 23.

Presley is also accused of using a pistol to threaten a man on May 7 in the 400 block of South Genesee Street in Waukegan.

Officers with the Waukegan Police Department located Presley around 40 minutes later after the May 7 incident and he fled on foot from them.

At one point, Presley allegedly used his vehicle to nearly strike a police officer and then caused between $500 and $10,000 in damage to a police car, the complaint said.

Officers arrested Presley and recovered a Glock 17 pistol that had been converted into a machine gun and loaded with 9mm ammunition, the complaint said.

Presley had two active arrest warrants at the time Waukegan police officers arrested him, court records show.

The first warrant was for an incident where Presley allegedly strangled a person and battered them in Zion on July 2. He was charged with aggravated domestic battery and two counts of domestic battery.

The second warrant was for an incident where Presley allegedly fled from police after they tried to pull him over in Zion on August 25. He was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude.

Presley remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $2 million bond. He would need to post $200,000 cash in order to be released.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 2 for a preliminary hearing.
