Car Brought in for Service Allegedly Taken on Joy Ride

The car was in for service at the Gurnee Dodge.

It was kind of like a scene from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” A car whose care was entrusted to a professional was taken on a faster than 90-mile-per-hour joy ride. Except the professional was a car repair shop and the car went flying through Lake County streets.

The Daily Herald is reporting that a Dodge Caliber SRT was driven 82 miles per hour on Route 45 and then 96 miles per hour on Stearns School Road.

“Dash-cam video dated Tuesday shows the car being driven by an unidentified technician from the dealership’s service area onto a side street, then west on Grand Avenue,” The Daily Herald reported. “The 2008 four-door hatchback then traveled north on Route 45, where the Garmin dash-cam indicated the speed reached 82 mph.

“From Route 45, the vehicle was driven east on Stearns School Road, where the dash-cam showed a speed of 96 mph.”

The car was in the shop for its 100,000 service, which cost a little less than $2,000.
