Crystal Lake Man Accused Of Biting Deputy

The McHenry County sheriff's deputy required medical treatment following the incident.

A Crystal Lake man has been charged with resisting arrest and biting a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy, causing him to need treatment at a hospital.

Francisco Palencia, 28, of the 7500 block of Pingree Road in Crystal Lake, was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, a Class 2 felony, and resisting a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a domestic dispute involving Palencia on Monday, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Byrnes.

Sheriff’s deputies attempted to arrest Palencia but he refused to place his hands behind his back and refused to be handcuffed, a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said.

Palencia then committed a battery by biting one of the deputies on his left forearm, the complaint said.

Byrnes said that the deputy was treated for the injury at a hospital and released.

Palencia was transported to the McHenry County Jail where a judge denied the man’s request to be released on a personal recognizance bond.

The judge set Palencia’s bond at $20,000 and he was later released after posting $2,000 cash Tuesday evening, court records show.

A court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
