NORTH CHICAGO, IL — A 23-year-old man is in custody in connection with the abduction of his one-month-old child last week, authorities said.

Adoniel Hoskins, Jr., is accused of entering the apartment of the child’s mother through an unlocked window just before noon on May 19.

“The mother and her friend told police that the father illegally entered the home through an unlocked window and took the baby from the arms of the mother’s friend,” Jim Moran, community information coordinator for the city of North Chicago, told Patch in an email response.

Authorities say detectives and police officers were able to quickly track down the child and father. They were located at a home in Waukegan and Hoskins, who has a last known of address listed in Bellwood, was taken into custody.

“Things moved very quickly,” North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez said. “One of the responding officers was working to get an AMBER Alert issued for the missing baby, however our officers were able to safely recover the boy before the alert could even be issued.”

Hoskins is now being held at the Lake County Jail on a $250,000 bail and faces residential burglary and child burglary charges.

He is next expected in court on June 9.
