Delays Abound In Libertyville Metra Station Projects
But both the downtown Libertyville Metra station and Prairie Crossing station are now slated to open in the coming months.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- Construction work on two Metra stations -- one a revamp of Libertyville’s downtown station and the second a new station at the Prairie Crossing stop -- has seen its fair share of delays in recent months. Libertyville’s downtown station, which started off as a redesign process, hit snags early on when construction bids came back much higher than planned in fall of 2017 and again when officials learned part of the current station did not meet current building code, the Daily Herald reports.
Rick Swanson, a Lake Forest architect who designed the station, told the newspaper only the foundation and one wall remains from the original building and Libertyville will basically be getting a new downtown station. The station, which is meant to better represent the character of the Libertyville community and replace a station that was deemed plain and unattractive, is expected to open on June 1.
The Prairie Crossing station, located at Harris Road and Route 137, will replace a trailer being used at the site since 2004 and is slated to open in April. It will basically serve as a warming house for Metra riders and will not have any bathrooms, according to the Daily Herald.
