Flood Warning Continues For Des Plaines River
A flood warning is in effect for towns along the Des Plaines River in Lake and Cook counties.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A flood warning is in effect for the Des Plaines River near Russell, Gurnee and Des Plaines and also for the Des Plaines River in Riverside and Lincolnshire, weather officials said Tuesday morning. The flood warning will be in effect through:
- Friday afternoon for the Des Plaines River near Gurnee. At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 8.1 feet and flood stage is 7 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is in the forecast. The river will hold near 8.1 feet through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by Friday afternoon.
- Thursday evening for the Des Plaines River at Lincolnshire. At 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 13.5 feet and flood stage is 12.5 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river will hold around 13.5 feet by Tuesday afternoon before falling below flood stage Thursday afternoon. At 12.5 feet, water begins to overflow onto Londonderry Lane.
- Late Wednesday night for the Des Plaines River near Russell, according to the National Weather Service. As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 6.9 feet and flood stage is 7 feet. The river is expected to rise to around flood stage Tuesday afternoon. At 7 feet, water flows into surrounding farm and marsh land near the river, the National Weather Service reports.
- Thursday morning for the The Des Plaines River near Des Plaines. As of 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 16.3 feet and flood stage is 15 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is in the forecast. The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. When the river hits 17 feet, weather officials said residents can expect water on the pavement in the 1700 block of Busse Highway, at River Road and Gregory, Central Road, and Big Bend Drive.
- Late Tuesday night for the Des Plaines River at Riverside. At 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 7.3 feet and flood stage is 7.5 feet. The river is expected to rise to near flood stage Tuesday evening. At 8 feet, park areas are inundated near Salt Creek, according to the National Weather Service.
Weather officials are reminding drivers to turn around and to not drive through a flooded roadway. A flood warning has also been issued for the Fox River in Algonquin and Montgomery.
