Fremont Public Library Creates Kids And Teens eReading Rooms

MUNDELEIN, IL — Fremont Public Library has created individual specialized eReading Rooms of children and teenage ebooks and audiobooks, the library announced in a release sent to Patch. The eReading Rooms concept came about through digitizing the concept of physical reading spaces in libraries that are designed specifically for children and teenage guests, as libraries continue adding innovations and conveniences to service the members of their community, according to the release.

Fremont Public Library’s digital collection offers thousands of ebooks and audiobooks in a variety of genres for all ages, and readers may easily browse the library's digital collection, instantly borrow titles and start reading or listening for free with a valid library card.

Patrons can browse digital books sectioned off from the rest of the catalog with all searches filtered and dedicated to children and teenagers. Readers can find this on fremont.overdrive.com/ and on Libby, the award-winning one-tap reading app from OverDrive. Within Libby, eReading Rooms are called “guides” while the library’s website refers to them as “collections."According to the release, the service is compatible with all major computers and devices, including iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows. With Libby, readers can also “send to Kindle” devices and apps (U.S. only).

According to the library, all titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees. Readers can also download titles onto Libby for offline use.

“Fremont Public Library’s goal is to make sure each visit to the library is as enjoyable and productive as possible,” Anna Kong, Public Relations Coordinator at Fremont Public Library, said, in the release. "Having separate eReading Rooms for Youth and Teens from Libby will help us reach this goal by making searching easier for both our parents and our young patrons.”
