VERNON HILLS, IL — The Hawthorn Mall is teaming up with the St. Baldrick's Foundation to raise money that will go toward helping to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Now through March 31, Hawthorn Mall is inviting the community to “Rock the Bald” during a virtual St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any other organization outside the U.S. government, according to a news release.

As part of the event, any time between now and March 31, participants are invited to videotape themselves having their heads shaved and then share the video on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #rockthebaldathawthornmall.

For those who want to help, but just can’t part with their lovely locks, there are also opportunities to volunteer or donate to the cause. Several prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising participants, including a football signed by Allen Robinson and a 2020 NFL mini helmet signed by Cole Kmet of the Chicago Bears.

Those who raise $50 or more may pick up a complimentary t-shirt between March 22 and March 31, and teams that raise the most in donations can pick up their medals and fundraising prizes between April 5 and April 9 in the mall’s management office.
