Jazz Theatre of Illinois will make you MOVE!

The sixth annual MOVE dance concert showcases a mix of professional and future professional dancers.

Jazz Theatre of Illinois is now in it’s sixth year, and the company members are busy preparing for their season opener. The company is currently in rehearsals for the November 17th concert MOVE. MOVE will showcase professional and future professional dancers from 9 different dance companies, including Giordano II. Company Director Emily Winkler “We are always thrilled that the group of young dancers we have selected have the opportunity to interact with other youth and professional dance companies in a positive and collaborative environment.”

Carrying on the spirit of community and collaboration, a portion of the proceeds from MOVE are donated to Giordano Dance Chicago’s outreach program, Jazz Dance/Science & Health. The scope of Giordano Dance Chicago’s mission includes extensive education/outreach programs that have brought performances and classes to thousands of youth, most in under served and low-income areas. GDC’s Jazz Dance/Science & Health program teaches 4th and 5th grade anatomy and nutrition curriculum through a dance-centric program in the science classroom. In 2018, this arts integration program: continued its 13th year at Pierce School of International Studies (Edgewater); continued its 3rd year at Mozart Elementary (Logan Square); and launched at Willa Cather Elementary School (East Garfield Park). The program served 438 students in roughly 275 classes.

Jazz Theatre of Illinois is in residence at Dance Academy of Libertyville, however no specific studio affiliation is required to participate. Dancers can continue to train at their home studio, which is unique in the dance environment. Company members represent Grayslake, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills.
