Libertyville Blotter: Retail Theft, Stolen Property, DUI

Here are the recent arrests made by the Libertyville Police Department from May 30 to June 12.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department made the following arrests between May 30-June 12.

As always, charges are merely an accusations; defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

May 30 - Driving Under the Influence

At 2:17 a.m., a Libertyville officer observed a speeding vehicle traveling southbound on S. Milwaukee Avenue near E. Sunnyside Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Ashley R. Powell, 30. While speaking with Powell, officers observed multiple indicators of impairment. Powell was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Based on the results of the sobriety tests, Powell was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where she was processed and cited. Powell was released after posting her driver’s license and signing a $1,000 personal recognizance bond with a pending court date of June 25 at 9 a.m. at the Lake County courthouse. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.

June 2 —Possession of Stolen Property

At 1:03 a.m., a Libertyville officer had contact with a subject in a parking lot in the 100 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue. The subject, identified as Marlon J Cooper, 26, appeared to be having car trouble. When the officer conducted check on the registration of Cooper’s vehicle, he learned the license plates had been reported stolen. Cooper was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and cited. Due to felony charges, Cooper attended a remote bond hearing through the Lake County courthouse. Cooper was released from custody after signing a $20,000 personal recognizance bond with a pending court date of July 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lake County courthouse. He's been charged with unlawful possession of Illinois license plates.

June 2 —Warrant Arrest/Traffic Offenses
At 8:59 p.m., a Libertyville officer observed a speeding vehicle traveling eastbound on IL Rt. 137 near the Peterson Road split. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Djuan C. King, 28. A records check revealed King’s driving privileges were suspended and he had an active warrant for his arrest out of Lake County. The warrant was confirmed and King was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and cited. King was released after posting the required $2,000 cash bond on the warrant. Regarding his new charges, King was released after signing a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. He's been charged with driving while his license is suspended and speeding.

June 5 — Warrant Arrest/Obstructing Identification
At 5:19 a.m., a Libertyville officer observed a speeding vehicle traveling southbound on Butterfield Road near Ridgewood Lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver of the vehicle, who identified himself as “Juan Gomez.” “Gomez” advised the officer he did not have a driver’s license and the officer was unable to locate a driver’s license record for “Gomez” through a records check. “Gomez” was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where it was determined he had provided a false name to the officer. “Gomez” was positively identified as Irving Quintana, 22. A records check indicated Quintana had an active warrant for his arrest out of Lake County, which was confirmed. Quintana was released on his new charges after signing a $2,500 personal recognizance bond with a pending court date of July 14 at 9 a.m. at the Mundelein Branch of the Lake County courthouse. Quintana was unable to post the required bond on the warrant and was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was turned over to jail personnel. He's charged with obstructing identification, no valid driver’s license and speeding.

June 8—Retail Theft

At 2:42 pm., Libertyville police officers were dispatched to George Garner Cyclery, 740 N. Milwaukee Avenue, for a disturbance and theft that had just occurred. George Garner employees advised that a male offender had stolen a pair of blue gym shoes. Officers responded to the area and located the offender on Lake Street west of Milwaukee Avenue. The offender was identified as Darius Williams, 28. Officers investigated the incident and Williams was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and cited. He's charged with retail theft.

June 12—Driving Under the Influence

At 1:15 a.m., a Libertyville officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 600 block of W. Winchester Rd. The officer observed the vehicle commit a stop sign violation. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver of the vehicle identified as Hector Gonzalez Fontane, 39. While speaking with Gonzalez Fontane, officers observed multiple indicators of impairment. Gonzalez Fontane was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Based on the results of the sobriety tests, Gonzalez Fontane was placed under arrest and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and cited. He's charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence BAC .08 or more, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper stop, failure to notify SOS of name/address change.
