Libertyville Days, Other Summer Events A Go In 2021

Village officials have given the green light to organizers of the farmer's market, Dog Days of Summer and Festival of Arts.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — With vaccinations ramping up across the country, and a light at the end of the tunnel after a long year dealing with COVID-19, village officials in Libertyville are proceeding with planning efforts for several upcoming festivals.

The Libertyville Days Festival, which includes a carnival, live music, beer garden, parade and food vendors, is scheduled for Aug. 12 to 15 — two months after it's typical June date, according to a Daily Herald article.

"We started to worry — is June a little too soon? Will people be confident coming out?" said Anne Carlino, executive director of the Civic Center Foundation.

Canceled last year due to COVID, this year's theme will be "Let's Give It A Shot!" to honor community heroes. The event is the sole fundraiser for the Libertyville Civic Center. Last year, the festival raised around $25,000 for the local non-profit and could greatly benefit the center this year — it has been completely shut down and depends mainly on room rentals for its revenues.

Other festivals that got the green light are the Dog Days of Summer, from July 8 to 11, and the 40th annual Festival of the Arts, from Aug. 7 to 8, in Cook Park. Organizers say they understand plans could change due to COVID mandates and changing conditions, but continue to move forward with their plans.
