Libertyville Rehab Hospital Plans Move Forward

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is expected to open in town in spring of 2022, Encompass Health Corp. officials announced Friday. Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, which will be located on American Way, will provide local acute services for those recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries including strokes and other neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions.

The hospital will also provide physical, occupational and speech therapies as well as 24-hour nursing care meant to restore functional ability and quality of life, according to a news release from Encompass Health.

"We are excited to expand our services in Illinois through this state-of-the-art hospital, which will bring much needed intensive rehabilitation services to Lake County and the surrounding area," said Troy DeDecker, president of Encompass Health’s central region. "Through this hospital, we will be able to provide more patients with customized care that helps them reach their highest levels of independence and gives them the confidence they need to move forward in their lives."

The hospital plans to operate a therapy gym with advanced rehabilitation technologies, an activities of daily living suite, cafeteria and dining room, pharmacy and therapy courtyard.

The Libertyville Village Board gave Encompass Health Corporation the green light to bring a $52 million rehabilitation facility to town. The 61,490-square-foot facility is planned for an 8.65-acre spot at American Way Drive and Winchester Road, according to the Libertyville Review.

The hospital will house 60 beds with the capacity to include 80, the Libertyville Review is reporting. It's unclear exactly when construction will start but Encompass Health plans to break ground this year, said John Spoden, the director of Community Development.

Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Libertyville will become part of Encompass Health’s national network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and home health and hospice agencies, which includes Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a 65-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Rockford.
