Libertyville OKs Outdoor Dining Through May 1
Restaurants in town will be able to keep tents up through the winter with the hopes of drawing business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — MainStreet Libertyville officials say allowing tents outside restaurants through the winter will "undoubtedly" keep many businesses up and and running despite state regulations that have limited capacity inside establishments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent weeks, the village approved an extension on the rules set up in May, which also included waiving fees for outdoor dining and suspending sign and parking requirements, according to the Daily Herald.
Those same rules will now remain in place through May 1, according to the article. Also last week, the village board approved a "COVID-19 pandemic exception," which will allow tents to operate without having to install fire sprinklers.
"Allowing restaurants to increase their dining capacity with tents and extending the season for which they may be used will undoubtedly help keep restaurants in business," said Jennifer Johnson, executive director of MainStreet Libertyville.
