Libertyville OKs Stormwater Utility Fee

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Starting this fall, Libertyville homeowners will pay an extra $156 per year, on average, for a stormwater utility fee meant to address flooding woes in town.

On Tuesday, village officials approved the new fee, which is meant to generate $2.1 million in funds per year and will cover an estimated $53 million in projects over the next 15 years, the Daily Herald is reporting. Village officials have been taking steps to address flooding issues since a storm in 2017 dropped 7.5 inches in 12 hours and flooded hundreds of homes in town.

The new fee will go into effect on Sept. 1. Among the initial projects planned is the installation and connection of a large storm sewer on Rockland Road and final engineering for installation of larger storm sewers that will increase water capacity in the Highlands area, according to the article.
