LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced the results of the recent Fourth of July "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" safety campaigns Tuesday. The sheriff's office said they arrested two impaired drivers, one drug offense arrested, and issued 109 seat belt citations.
According to the sheriff's office, law enforcement agencies from across Illinois participated in the statewide effort aimed at getting those driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol off the roadways, in addition to encouraging seat belt use.
As a result, a total of 197 citations were issued during the campaign across the state, including the arrest of two fugitives, the sheriff's office reported.

“There is no place for drunk or drugged drivers on our roadways," Sheriff John Idleburg said, in a release. "While this traffic safety campaign is over, our Sheriff’s Deputies will continue remaining vigilant for those driving under the influence. We can’t stress it enough – driving requires one’s full attention – don’t drink, use drugs, or be distracted when operating a vehicle.”
The recent law enforcement effort was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” programs, the sheriff's office said.
