Northbound Route 45 has reopened after crews worked to replace a retaining wall that collapsed in September.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Libertyville Police Department has announced that Route 45 north of Peterson is now open to traffic. Northbound Route 45 was closed Sept. 3 after a Metra embankment retaining wall collapsed. The incident caused major traffic delays.

Traffic was rerouted west on Peterson Road, north on Route 83 and east on Route 120 in Grayslake to connect with Lake Street, and many delays were reported while crews worked on the retaining wall.

Metra and the Illinois Division of Transportation coordinated plans for the replacement of the wall, which stood 63 feet high and 63 feet wide.
