Snow, Sleet, Rain On Its Way: Who Will Be The Hardest Hit?

The winter weather returns today with a mix of snow and sleet expected throughout the Chicago area. There also could be some thunderstorms.

We know – it's supposed to start to feel like spring one of these days, right? But Wednesday is not that day. Instead of sunshine and warmth there will be sleet, snow, high wind gusts and even the possibility for some thunderstorms for portions of the Chicago area.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for 10 a.m. Wednesday through 1 a.m. Thursday for Lake and McHenry counties, which is expected to get the hardest hit by the winter weather. Towns closest to the Wisconsin border could see up to four inches of snow when all is said and done while towns on the southern portion of the suburbs could see less than one inch of snow.

For towns in McHenry and Lake counties, a period of mixed precipitation is expected from mid-morning through mid-afternoon with some potential for accumulating snow, sleet and freezing rain. The precipitation is expected to change to all snow by Wednesday afternoon and should continue into the evening rush hour, according to the National Weather Service.
