Tis the Season

October Days

The Seeds a Plenty (to verse: The sound of Silence)

Goodbye summer, hello fall

I’ve got pumpkin seeds for all

Because a pumpkin that was so round

Near perfect circle lay atop the ground

And the orange that I set out to find each Halloween

Absent green

Assures the seeds a plenty

Countless pumpkins I have seen

In patches only dream

Under rays of an October sun

I surveyed them having so much fun

Till my feet were nearly raw cause I had no shoes

Just bottled booze

To find the seeds a plenty

And in a distant patch I saw

A thousand pumpkins maybe more

Pumpkins looking nearly oblong

Pumpkins totally unfit for song

Pumpkins lack the seeds to carefully toast

Or maybe roast

Bereft the seeds of plenty

Think I’m crazy – take a hike

Seeds of plenty make fall right

Open pumpkin top to dig and find them

Add a pinch of seasoned salt to bind them

And if you don’t, then I’ve got wish for you

Choke on the seeds of plenty

Come every fall we should all pray

For the right October day

When the air is crisp and sunny

Noses not yet stuffed or runny

And the kids shout: “Time to look for the pumpkins with the really good seeds

Yes time indeed

Pumpkins filled – the seeds of plenty
