10 Question With Dr. Kathy Pycinska Of Nelson Ridge Family Dental

It's no secret that visiting the dentist isn't the most enjoyable experience, but by getting to know the patient and gaining their trust, Dr. Kathy Pycinska is helping change attitudes about going to the dentist. Patch: How long have you been doing business in town or how long has the organization you represent been around in the community?

Dr. Pycinska: Our practice opened in April of 2012, and I joined in September of 2015.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Dr. Pycinska: I knew I wanted to be a dentist from a very young age and never considered any other profession. Thankfully, I liked dentistry because I had no backup plan!

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Dr. Pycinska: Compassionate, quality and honest care.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Dr. Pycinska: Let's face it, no one enjoys going to the dentist. Gaining a patient's trust in an effort to make them feel comfortable is by far the biggest challenge.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Dr. Pycinska: The gratitude that patients display after we alleviate their pain and discomfort is by far the best part of my job.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Dr. Pycinska: We make a conscious effort to make sure every patient feels heard and appreciated. It's no secret that no one really enjoys coming to the dentist and we feel that spending that extra bit of time getting to know them makes all the difference.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Dr. Pycinska: A professor in dental school told me "Do not get in your own way." Things like fear of failure can really stall your progress and working on not letting that be a road block is extremely important.

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?

Dr. Pycinska: Both Dr. Etchison and I attend Continuing Education courses on a regular basis to make sure that we are doing everything we can for our patients. This means that we are always updating our techniques and practices so there is always something new that we are working on!
