15,208 Fully Vaccinated Against Coronavirus In Will County

WILL COUNTY, IL — More than 15,200 people in Will County were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus by Wednesday, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. That represents about 2.20 percent of the county's total population.

57,104 total doses were administered in the county by Wednesday, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The state has also started sharing data on its vaccine inventory, and the reported inventory for Will County is 8,825, with 8,715 of the reported inventory at the local health department, and 110 at community based sites.

The speed of administering vaccines has stayed about the same over the past week in Will County, the state's data shows. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered sat at 1,818.

Will County ranked fifth in terms of doses administered, trailing Chicago, and Cook and DuPage and Lake counties. Comparatively, Chicago has fully vaccinated 2.44 percent of its population, Cook County is at 2.43 percent, DuPage is at 2.97 percent, and Lake County is at 1.77 percent.

More than 1.4 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered statewide, IDPH data shows. About 223,000 doses were given to residents and staff at Illinois long-term-care facilities through a federal program run by CVS and Walgreens.

The state is currently in Phase 1B of its vaccination plan, which includes residents 65 and older, those who work as first responders, K-12 education workers, food and agriculture, manufacturing, corrections workers and inmates, USPS workers, public transit workers, grocery store workers, and staff at shelters and day cares.

The Will County Board recently authorized a $1.6 million contract for a new COVID-19 call center to assist the Will County Health Department with their call response, according to a release from the board.

County Board leaders expect the new call center to begin fielding calls as soon as the staff is hired and trained which could happen in the next week or two.

County Board members are urging their constituents to register for their vaccination online at the Will County Health Department's website or by calling the Health Department at 815-723-9713. Residents will be notified when there is vaccination available, and it is time to schedule their appointment.
