FRANKFORT, IL — A New Lenox man was charged with battery after a violent encounter with another man outside a Frankfort bar on Oct. 14.
Bernard Powers, 43, of the 1100 block of Georgia Way in New Lenox allegedly shoved and tackled the victim, a 31-year-old Tinley Park man, after the victim tried to congratulate Powers on his son entering the Marines.
The incident happened outside Jameson's Pub, 9545 St. Francis Road, according to Frankfort Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan.

The victim wanted to shake Powers' hand, Keegan said, but Powers refused.
The victim then texted Powers' son noting that his father would not accept the offering, which subsequently set Bernard off, Keegan said. Powers then tackled the victim into the door, causing a laceration to his head. He was treated on-scene and then transported to an Olympia Fields hospital.
