College Credits: Students Named To Honor Societies, Dean's List
Area students are doing amazing things at colleges and universities across the United States.

Students from area towns like New Lenox, Homer Glen, Lockport and Mokena are celebrating accomplishments throughout the semester, including making Dean's List, volunteering in the community, and being named to honor societies.

Kamryn Fields is graduating Magna Cum Laude from Central Michigan University this May with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science. Kamryn made the Fall 2020 President's List after earning a 4.0 for her final undergraduate semester. She will begin the Doctor of Physical Therapy Graduate Program at Central Michigan this summer. Kamryn is a 2017 graduate of Lockport Township High School.

UA Students Safely Volunteer Despite the Pandemic

The University of Alabama's student-led organization Serving Bama found a way to safely continue vital, in-person volunteer services during the coronavirus pandemic and they continue doing so today.
Among those students who led the way to safely continue volunteer services were Caroline Ward of Mokena, and Allison Polinski of Lockport, both assistant team leaders with Serving Bama.
Serving Bama is one of UA's Center for Service and Leadership's Community Action Teams. Through the hardwork of its team leader and 23 assistant team leaders, Serving Bama makes it their mission to serve the community, meeting a variety of needs for eleven nonprofits throughout Tuscaloosa, where nearly 130 UA students volunteer weekly.
Serving Bama contributed more than 1,000 hours of volunteer services to the community last semester, and so far this semester, they've volunteered more than 60 hours.
Serving Bama currently partners with UA Arboretum, Humane Society of West Alabama Dog Shelter and Cat Shelter, Salvation Army, Therapeutic Riding of Tuscaloosa, West Alabama Food Bank, Wings of Grace, Schoolyard Roots, Moundville Archaeological Park, SD Allen Ministries, Black Warrior Riverkeeper and Jeremiah's Garden.
Olivia Palumbo Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
Olivia Palumbo of Lockport, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.. Palumbo was initiated at Grand Valley State University.
Palumbo is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Homer Glen's Olinger Named All-American in Academics for UW-Whitewater Gymnastics
Vanessa Olinger, of Homer Glen, and a senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team, was one of two Warhawks who were selected as All-Americans in Academics by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association.
Olinger finished with season average scores of 9.483 on floor and 9.008 on beam. She saved her best for last on floor, collecting a 9.525 in the final routine of her career on Saturday against UW-Oshkosh.
Olinger is majoring in communication with an emphasis in public relations. She is a member of both the Dean's List and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
To be recognized with the All-America in Academics Award, gymnasts must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be in their last season of athletic eligibility.
Matthew Becker Named to Fall 2020 Dean's List at University of the Sciences
Matthew Becker, of Lockport, has been named to the Fall 2020 Dean's List at University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a "C" and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the Fall of 2020.
Becker is a physics student.

Isabella Voss inducted into Millikin Chapter of Delta Mu Delta
Isabella Voss of New Lenox, is among the 24 new members inducted into Millikin University's Xi Sigma chapter of Delta Mu Delta (DMD) International Honor Society.
Delta Mu Delta is a business honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a DMD community that fosters the well-being of its individual members and the business community through lifetime membership.
To be eligible for membership, undergraduate students must be at least a junior and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. MBA students must have completed at least half of the requirements for their degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
