Dr. Spencer Pope Installed as CDS’ South Suburban Branch Director

Dr. Pope Among Three New Branch Directors to Join Chicago Dental Society Leadership

A practicing orthodontist for more than 20 years, Spencer Pope, D.D.S., M.S., of New Lenox, Illinois, was installed as South Suburban Branch Director of the Chicago Dental Society (CDS) on November 8. Previously, Dr. Pope held multiple leadership positions with CDS’ South Suburban Branch, is actively involved with the Mediation Committee, and serves as the CDS Foundation’s Vice-Chair.

As South Suburban Branch Director, Dr. Pope will help govern South Suburban Branch members, drive engagement, and help with preparations for the 156th Midwinter Meeting, taking place virtually February 25-27, 2021. The Midwinter Meeting is CDS’ annual scientific meeting and one of the dental industry’s premier events. This year’s virtual format will offer attendees access to courses taught by world-class speakers and today’s leaders in dental innovation, live exhibits, and networking opportunities with colleagues and friends, all from the comfort and convenience of their office, home or even on the go.

Dr. Pope holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and earned his dental degree and a Master of Science in oral biology from Northwestern University Dental School. He is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Marquette University Dental School, and previously was the Orthodontic Clinic Director and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Dental School. He is the current Chair of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation Donated Orthodontic Services Program and is the Illinois Director to the Midwestern Society of Orthodontics, among many other positions. Throughout his career, he has held fellowships with numerous organization, including the Pierre Fauchard Academy, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International and International College of Dentists. In 2020, he received the Illinois State Dental Society’s President’s Award in recognition of his exemplary contributions to dentistry and the dental profession.

Dr. Pope and his wife, Lydia Pope R.D.H, have two children, Ethan and Ian, and live in New Lenox, Illinois. In his free time, Dr. Pope enjoys staying active through cycling, downhill skiing and rock climbing. He has even reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro and earned a certification as an advanced open water scuba diver.

Established in 1864, CDS is the largest local society of the American Dental Association, with more than 4,400 members in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties.
