Two class options will be available. Every Wednesday starting on March 6th through April 24th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., seniors can take classes at the New Lenox Public Library located at 120 Veterans Parkway in New Lenox. Monday morning classes will also be an option, starting on March 18th and running through May 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Monday classes will be held at the New Lenox VFW Post 9545 located at 323 Old Hickory Road in New Lenox.
A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program geared towards teaching older adults how to lessen their fear of falling. Seniors tend to reduce their activity and limit their time with loved ones due to the risk of falling, which in turn increases their risk of falling due to weakness. Their fear of falling also leads to isolation and sometimes depression.

The program aims to lessen their fear of falling and gradually amp up their activity. Participants will learn how to identify fall risk factors. Additionally, they will set activity goals and learn exercises to improve their balance and increase their strength. Overall, the goal is to teach independence and improve the quality of life for seniors.
Advanced registration is required for the classes. Those interested in participating can contact Safe Community Coordinator, Daniel Martin, at (815) 462-6493 or email him at dmartin@newlenox.net.
