Friday the 13th Threat Unfounded: LW Central Principal

Will County Sheriff's Department called in to investigate; determined the threat was not credible.

A rumor of a Friday, May 13 threat against Lincoln-Way Central has been dispelled, Principal Steven Provis told parents in an email Monday, May 9.

The rumor circulating in the school community spoke of someone "causing harm to our school on Friday, May 13," Provis said in the email. The Will County Sheriff's Department was notified.

"Since hearing this, we have identified the source of the rumor, and Will County Sheriff’s Department has performed a thorough investigation; law enforcement has determined that it is not a credible threat," Provis told parents.

"After dealing with the source of the rumor and getting statements from numerous people, we will continue with the normal school day as scheduled."

Additional officers will be stationed at the school throughout the day May 13, including added security at school entrances, and increased hallway monitoring by staff.

"Although the rumor is entirely unfounded, the peace of mind of our parents and students plays an essential role in a positive school atmosphere," Provis told parents."I would like to emphasize to parents and students that when it comes to safety, we fully investigate and react to any concerns that arise. We take all potential threats—including rumors—seriously."
